Tabbing is required when claiming automation letter rates or whenever you have enclosed an insert into an otherwise open piece (such as a self-mailer). Tabs prevent the open edge of your mailing from jamming the Postal Service’s high-speed processing equipment. There are different requirements depending on how the piece is shaped; the weight of the paper and where the opening is so let us know what you have.
